Technically speaking, a self-hosted WordPress blog is the “professional” side of WordPress blogging as you have total control over your website, on the other hand, WordPress.com is good for starting a free blog where you just need to start a blog. The biggest limitation of WordPress.com blogging platform is you can’t monetize with popular ad platform like AdSense & many others. I have covered this in-depth over here.

But for a beginner, it’s always wise to start a blog on WordPress.com or BlogSpot without spending a dime (ie it’s free).

The WordPress team just announced a new portal for those who wish to learn WordPress and start their first WordPress.com blog.

This is really helpful for beginners who wish to know how to sign up and start writing their first blog post.

I’m sure many of you who have not started blogging yet will welcome this new portal from the WordPress team.
